Unless it be a mercy from Us, and as an enjoyment for a while.

And they add, When is this promise [of resurrection] to be fulfilled? [Answer this] if you are men of truth!

مگر یہ ہماری رحمت اور ایک مدت تک کے فائدے ہیں

{ إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِنَّا وَمَتَاعًا إِلَى حِينٍ } حيث لم نغرقهم، لطفا بهم، وتمتيعا لهم إلى حين، لعلهم يرجعون، أو يستدركون ما فرط منهم.

إلا أن نرحمهم فننجيهم ونمتعهم إلى أجل؛ لعلهم يرجعون ويستدركون ما فرَّطوا فيه.

"إلا رحمه منا" وهذا استثناء منقطع تقديره ولكن برحمتنا نسيركم في البر والبحر ونسلمكم إلى أجل مسمى ولهذا قال تعالى: "ومتاعا إلى حين" أي إلى وقت معلوم عند الله عز وجل.

Among the Signs of Allah is that He carried Them in the laden Ship Allah tells us: another sign for them of His might and power is that He has subjugated the sea to carry ships, including -- most significantly -- the ship of Nuh , peace be upon him, in which Allah saved him and the believers, apart from whom none of the descendants of Adam were left on the face of the earth. Allah says: وَءَايَةٌ لَّهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ (And an Ayah for them is that We bore their offspring) means, their forefathers, فِى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ (in the laden ship.) means, in the ship which was filled with luggage and animals, in which Allah commanded him to put two of every kind. Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "Laden means filled." This was also the view of Sa`id bin Jubayr, Ash-Sha`bi, Qatadah and As-Suddi. Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah and Ibn Zayd said, "This was the ship of Nuh peace be upon him." وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّن مِّثْلِهِ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ (And We have created for them of the like thereunto, on which they ride.) Al-`Awfi said, narrating from Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, "This means the camel, for it is the ship of the land on which they carry goods and on which they ride. " Ibn Jarir recorded that Ibn `Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said, "Do you know what the Ayah: وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّن مِّثْلِهِ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ (And We have created for them of the like thereunto, on which they ride.) refers to" We said, "No." He said, "This refers to the ships which were made after the ship of Nuh, peace be upon him, which was similar to it." This was also the view of Abu Malik, Ad-Dahhak, Qatadah, Abu Salih and As-Suddi, that the Ayah وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّن مِّثْلِهِ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ (And We have created for them of the like thereunto, on which they ride.) refers to ships. وَإِن نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ (And if We will, We shall drown them,) means, those who are on board the ships. فَلاَ صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ (and there will be no shout for them) means, there will be no one to save them from their predicament. وَلاَ هُمْ يُنقَذُونَ (nor will they be saved. ) means, from what has befallen them. إِلاَّ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا (Unless it be a mercy from Us,) means, `but by Our mercy We make it easy for you to travel on land and sea, and We keep you safe until an appointed time.' Allah says: وَمَتَاعاً إِلَى حِينٍ (and as an enjoyment for a while.) meaning, until a time that is known to Allah, may He be glorified and exalted.

سمندر کی تسخیر۔ اللہ تبارک و تعالیٰ اپنی قدرت کی ایک اور نشانی بتارہا ہے کہ اس نے سمندر کو مسخر کردیا ہے جس میں کشتیاں برابر آمد و رفت کر رہی ہیں۔ سب سے پہلی کشتی حضرت نوح ؑ کی تھی جس پر سوار ہو کر وہ خود اور ان کے ساتھ ایماندار بندے نجات پا گئے تھے باقی روئے زمین پر ایک انسان بھی نہ بچا تھا، ہم نے اس زمانے والے لوگوں کے آباؤ اجداد کو کشتی میں بٹھا لیا تھا جو بالکل بھرپور تھی۔ کیونکہ اس میں ضرورت اکل اسباب بھی تھا اور ساتھ ہی حیوانات بھی تھے جو اللہ کے حکم سے اس میں بٹھا لئے گئے تھے ہر قسم کے جانور کا ایک ایک جوڑا تھا، بڑا باوقار مضبوط اور بوجھل وہ جہاز تھا، یہ صفت بھی صحیح طور پر حضرت نوح کی کشتی پر صادق آتی ہے۔ اسی طرح کی خشکی کی سواریاں بھی اللہ نے ان کے لئے پیدا کردی ہیں مثلاً اونٹ جو خشکی میں وہی کام دیتا ہے جو تری میں کشتی کام دیتی ہے۔ اسی طرح دیگر چوپائے جانور ہیں اور یہ بھی ہوسکتا ہے کہ کشتی نوح نمونہ بنی اور پھر اس نمونے پر اور کشتیاں اور جہاز بنتے چلے گئے۔ اس مطلب کی تائید آیت (لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَّتَعِيَهَآ اُذُنٌ وَّاعِيَةٌ 12) 69۔ الحاقة :12) سے بھی ہوتی ہے یعنی جب پانی نے طغیانی کی تو ہم نے انہیں کشتی میں سوار کرلیا تاکہ اسے تمہارے لئے ایک یادگار بنادیں اور یاد رکھنے والے کان اسے یاد رکھیں۔ ہمارے اس احسان کو فراموش نہ کرو کہ سمندر سے ہم نے تمہیں پار کردیا اگر ہم چاہتے تو اسی میں تمہیں ڈبو دیتے کشتی کی کشتی بیٹھ جاتی کوئی نہ ہوتا جو اس وقت تمہاری فریاد رسی کرتا نہ کوئی ایسا تمہیں ملتا جو تمہیں بچا سکتا۔ لیکن یہ صرف ہماری رحمت ہے کہ خشکی اور تری کے لمبے چوڑے سفر تم با آرام و راحت طے کر رہے ہو اور ہم تمہیں اپنے ٹھہرائے ہوئے وقت تک ہر طرح سلامت رکھتے ہیں۔
