And Hârûn (Aaron) indeed had said to them beforehand: "O my people! You are being tried in this, and verily, your Lord is (Allâh) the Most Gracious, so follow me and obey my order."

And, indeed, even before [the return of Moses] had Aaron said unto them: O my people! You are but being tempted to evil by this [idol] – for, behold, your [only] Sustainer is the Most Gracious! Follow me, then, and obey my bidding!

اور ہارون نے ان سے پہلے ہی کہہ دیا تھا کہ لوگو اس سے صرف تمہاری آزمائش کی گئی ہے۔ اور تمہارا پروردگار تو خدا ہے تو میری پیروی کرو اور میرا کہا مانو

أي: إن اتخاذهم العجل، ليسوا معذورين فيه، فإنه وإن كانت عرضت لهم الشبهة في أصل عبادته، فإن هارون قد نهاهم عنه، وأخبرهم أنه فتنة، وأن ربهم الرحمن، الذي منه النعم الظاهرة والباطنة، الدافع للنقم وأنه أمرهم أن يتبعوه، ويعتزلوا العجل

ولقد قال هارون لبني إسرائيل من قبل رجوع موسى إليهم: يا قوم إنما اختُبرتم بهذا العجل؛ ليظهر المؤمن منكم من الكافر، وإن ربكم الرحمن لا غيره فاتبعوني فيما أدعوكم إليه من عبادة الله، وأطيعوا أمري في اتباع شرعه.

يخبر تعالى عما كان من نهي هارون لهم عن عبادتهم العجل وإخباره إياهم إنما هذا فتنة لكم وإن ربكم الرحمن الذي خلق كل شيء فقدره تقديرا ذو العرش المجيد الفعال لما يريد "فاتبعونى وأطيعوا أمري " أي فيما آمركم به واتركوا ما أنهاكم عنه.

Harun prohibits them from worship of Calf and the Persistence of the Children of Israel in doing so Allah, the Exalted, informs of Harun's attempt to prohibit them from worshipping the calf and his telling them that this was only a test for them. He told them that their Lord was the Most Beneficent, Who created everything and decreed for everything its just measure. He is the Owner of the Mighty Throne, the One Who does whatever He wants. فَاتَّبِعُونِى وَأَطِيعُواْ أَمْرِى (so follow me and obey my order.) Meaning, "Follow me in that which I am commanding you with and leave that which I forbid you from." قَالُواْ لَن نَّبْرَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَـكِفِينَ حَتَّى يَرْجِعَ إِلَيْنَا مُوسَى (They said: "We will not stop worshipping it, until Musa returns to us.") meaning, "We will not cease in our worship of this calf until we hear what Musa has to say about it." So they opposed Harun in this matter and they fought against him, nearly killing him.

بنی اسرائیل اور ہارون ؑ۔حضرت موسیٰ ؑ کے آنے سے پہلے حضرت ہارون ؑ نے انہیں ہرچند سمجھایا بجھایا کہ دیکھو فتنے میں نہ پڑو اللہ رحمان کے سوا اور کسی کے سامنے نہ جھکو۔ وہ ہر چیز کا خالق مالک ہے سب کا اندازہ مقرر کرنے والا وہی ہے وہی عرش مجید کا مالک ہے وہی جو چاہے کر گزرنے والا ہے۔ تم میری تابعداری اور حکم برداری کرتے رہو جو میں کہوں وہ بجا لاؤ جس سے روکوں رک جاؤ۔ لیکن ان سرکشوں نے جواب دیا کہ موسیٰ ؑ کی سن کر تو خیر ہم مان لیں گے تب تک تو ہم اس کی پرستش نہیں چھوڑیں گے۔ چناچہ لڑنے اور مرنے مارنے کے واسطے تیار ہوگئے۔
