Birth of the Prophet ﷺ
مولد النبي ﷺ
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in Mecca in the Year of the Elephant, the son of Abdullah and Aminah, from the noble lineage of Quraysh through the family of Hashim.
The Account
The Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah ﷺ was born in Mecca approximately in the Year of the Elephant (Aam al-Feel), the same year that Abraha al-Ashram marched with his army of elephants to demolish the Ka'bah — only to be destroyed by birds carrying stones, as Allah recorded in Surah Al-Feel.
His father, Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib, died before his birth — most accounts place his death on a trading journey to Madinah (then called Yathrib). The Prophet ﷺ was thus born an orphan, and Allah mentions this in the Quran:
*"Did He not find you an orphan and sheltered you?"* (Ad-Duha: 6)
His mother was Aminah bint Wahb of the Banu Zuhra clan. His grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib, was the most honoured man of Quraysh and was present at his birth.
His lineage is the most noble of all Arabs: Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abd al-Muttalib ibn Hashim ibn Abd Manaf — tracing back through Isma'il (Ishmael) to Ibrahim (Abraham) ﷺ.
Nursing: According to the custom of noble Arab families, he was nursed first by Thuwaybah, a freed slave of his uncle Abu Lahab, for a short period. He was then sent to be suckled among the Bedouin of Banu Sa'd, and was taken by Halimah al-Sa'diyya and her husband, whose herds and family experienced great blessings during the time he was with them.
The Prophet ﷺ lived with Halimah for approximately four to five years in the desert air of the Banu Sa'd region.

Weak & Fabricated Narration Notes

Verdict: These reports are not established with authentic chains. They appear in Ibn Ishaq's Sirah but without reliable isnads.

Claim: He was born already circumcised
Verdict: This is disputed. The hadith cited is weak according to Al-Albani.
