They said: "By Allâh! Certainly, you are in your old error."

AND WHEN they [all arrived in Egypt and] presented themselves before Joseph, he drew his parents unto himself, saying, Enter Egypt! If God so wills, you shall be secure [from all evil]!

وہ بولے کہ والله آپ اسی قدیم غلطی میں (مبتلا) ہیں

فوقع ما ظنه بهم فقالوا: { تَاللَّهِ إِنَّكَ لَفِي ضَلَالِكَ الْقَدِيمِ } أي: لا تزال تائها في بحر الحبّ لا تدري ما تقول.

قال الحاضرون عنده: تالله إنك لا تزال في خطئك القديم مِن حب يوسف، وأنك لا تنساه.

قال ابن عباس لفي خطئك القديم وقال قتادة أي من حب يوسف لا تنساه ولا تسلاه قالوا لوالدهم كلمة غليظة لم يكن ينبغي لهم أن يقولوها لوالدهم وكنا لنبي الله صلي الله عليه وسلم وكذا قال السدي وغيره.

Ya`qub finds the Scent of Yusuf in his Shirt! Yusuf said, `Take this shirt of mine, فَأَلْقُوهُ عَلَى وَجْهِ أَبِى يَأْتِ بَصِيرًا (and cast it over the face of my father, his vision will return),' because Ya`qub had lost his sight from excessive crying, وَأْتُونِى بِأَهْلِكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ (and bring to me all your family.) all the children of Ya`qub. وَلَمَّا فَصَلَتِ الْعِيرُ (And when the caravan departed) from Egypt, قَالَ أَبُوهُمْ (their father said...), Ya`qub, peace be upon him, said to the children who remained with him, إِنِّى لأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ لَوْلاَ أَن تُفَنِّدُونِ `(I do indeed feel the smell of Yusuf, if only you think me not senile.), except that you might think me senile because of old age.' `Abdur-Razzaq narrated that Ibn `Abbas said, "When the caravan departed from Egypt, a wind started blowing and brought the scent of Yusuf's shirt to Ya`qub. He said, إِنِّى لأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ لَوْلاَ أَن تُفَنِّدُونِ (I do indeed feel the smell of Yusuf , if only you think me not senile.) He found his scent from a distance of eight days away!" Similar was also reported through Sufyan Ath-Thawri and Shu`bah and others reported it from Abu Sinan. Ya`qub said to them, لَوْلاَ أَن تُفَنِّدُونِ (if only you think me not senile.) Ibn `Abbas, Mujahid, `Ata, Qatadah and Sa'id bin Jubayr commented, "If only you think me not a fool!" Mujahid and Al-Hasan said that it means, "If only you think me not old." Their answer to him was, إِنَّكَ لَفِى ضَلَـلِكَ الْقَدِيمِ (Certainly, you are in your old Dalal.) meaning, `in your old error,' according to Ibn `Abbas. Qatadah commented, "They meant that, `because of your love for Yusuf you will never forget him.' So they uttered a harsh word to their father that they should never have uttered to him, nor to a Prophet of Allah." Similar was said by As-Suddi and others.

چونکہ اللہ کے رسول حضرت یعقوب ؑ اپنے رنج وغم میں روتے روتے نابینا ہوگئے تھے، اس لئے حضرت یوسف ؑ اپنے بھائیوں سے کہتے ہیں کہ میرا یہ کرتہ لے کر تم ابا کے پاس جاؤ، اسے ان کے منہ پر ڈالتے ہی انشاء اللہ ان کی نگاہ روشن ہوجائے گی۔ پھر انہیں اور اپنے گھرانے کے تمام اور لوگوں کو یہیں میرے پاس لے آؤ۔ ادھر یہ قافلہ مصر سے نکلا، ادھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے حضرت یعقوب ؑ کو حضرت یوسف کی خوشبو بہنچا دی تو آپ نے اپنے ان بچوں سے جو آپ کے پاس تھے فرمایا کہ مجھے تو میرے پیارے فرزند یوسف کی خوشبو آرہی ہے لیکن تم تو مجھے سترا بہترا کم عقل بڈھا کہہ کر میری اس بات کو باور نہیں کرنے کے۔ ابھی قافلہ کنعان سے آٹھ دن کے فاصلے پر تھا جو بحکم الہی ہوا نے حضرت یعقوب کو حضرت یوسف کے پیراہن کی خوشبو پہنچا دی۔ اس وقت حضرت یوسف ؑ کی گمشدگی کی مدت اسی سال کی گزر چکی تھی اور قافلہ اسی فرسخ آپ سے دور تھا۔ لیکن بھائیوں نے کہا آپ تو یوسف کی محبت میں غلطی میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں نہ غم آپ کے دل سے دور ہو نہ آپ کو تسلی ہو۔ ان کا یہ کلمہ بڑا سخت تھا کسی لائق اولاد کو لائق نہیں کہ اپنے باپ سے یہ کہے نہ کسی امتی کو لائق ہے کہ اپنی نبی سے یہ کہے .
